Petra
Carey - Drama Instructor
Petra is
from Edinburgh. Her first introduction into the theatre was singing with ‘Jess
Conrad’ in ‘Joseph’s Technicoloured Dreamcoat’ at
the King’s Theatre in Edinburgh. It was that experience which drove
her to winning a place at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, in Drama
and Acting Studies. During her training she worked with Frankfurt Opera Company
and appeared on Take The High Road. Petra graduated in 1991 starting her
professional career in a lead part for BBC’s in ‘Parell Lives’ alongside
River City’s Julie Coombe. Other film work includes Bank Of Scotland
Discrimination with John Buick for Scope TV and recent 2006 film for Speakeasy
Productions for NHS Scotland.
Petra toured as a singer with accomplished musical director and pianist ‘Stuart
Mitchell’ who worked with Dame Shirley Bassey , Culture Club and Rita
Coolidge. She then went on to perform the role of ‘Doreen’ in Tony
Ropers ‘The Steamie’ which earned her great reviews. Other theatre
work includes: Royal Lyceam, Ideal Husband with Victoria Hardcastle, Festival
Theatres ‘Ina’ in Spindrift with Paul Nivisan. She also performed
in many pantomimes
She acted alongside Bob Grant (from On The Buses) in Pitlochry Festival Theatre
and Perth Rep, with Tom Flemming in Shawdowlands and with Andy Gray and Edith
MacArthur in ‘What Every Woman Knows’.
Petra was hand picked by award winning actress ‘Jill Balkan’ (Daniel
Day Lewis’s mother to perform a poetry master class.
She has taught Theatre in Education for the last 16 years in schools and colleges
in Edinburgh, Fife and Stirling. She has toured an educational MacRoberts Show
in the Forth Valley District and works with Interact NHS in schools in Stirling.
For the last two years Petra has loved teaching pupils at Stageworx and feels
honoured to be part of the Stageworx family .
